About the role

This position facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through specialized instruction and a supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate developmentally appropriate learning opportunities
  • Adapt classroom work to meet individualized learning needs
  • Achieve student academic success and foster a smooth transition to elementary school
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration
  • Communicate with parents about student progress and develop methods of improvement
  • Manage student behavior to create a safe and optimal learning environment
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, and colleagues to provide appropriate services
  • Monitor preschool students in various educational settings
  • Model appropriate social and interpersonal behavior
  • Prepare written materials such as newsletters, assessment reports, and lesson plans
  • Attend IEP meetings for students as needed
  • Respond to emergency situations and resolve immediate safety concerns
  • Administer first aid and dispense medications as needed
  • Respond to inquiries from various sources and provide information or direction
  • Participate in meetings to convey and gather information

Requirements

  • SPED certification
  • Mild/Moderate Disabilities endorsement

Qualifications

  • Experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of educational interventions and district curriculum
  • Ability to manage student behavior and create a safe learning environment
