About the role
This position facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through specialized instruction and a supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate developmentally appropriate learning opportunities
- Adapt classroom work to meet individualized learning needs
- Achieve student academic success and foster a smooth transition to elementary school
- Assess student progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration
- Communicate with parents about student progress and develop methods of improvement
- Manage student behavior to create a safe and optimal learning environment
- Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, and colleagues to provide appropriate services
- Monitor preschool students in various educational settings
- Model appropriate social and interpersonal behavior
- Prepare written materials such as newsletters, assessment reports, and lesson plans
- Attend IEP meetings for students as needed
- Respond to emergency situations and resolve immediate safety concerns
- Administer first aid and dispense medications as needed
- Respond to inquiries from various sources and provide information or direction
- Participate in meetings to convey and gather information
Requirements
- SPED certification
- Mild/Moderate Disabilities endorsement
Qualifications
- Experience working with students with mild to moderate disabilities
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Knowledge of educational interventions and district curriculum
- Ability to manage student behavior and create a safe learning environment
