Essential Functions

  • Organizes and facilitates developmentally appropriate learning opportunities.
  • Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials addressing individualized learning within established curriculum guidelines.
  • Affords assessments of student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Communicates student progress to parents and/or legal guardians, setting expectations, documenting achievements, and developing methods of improvement and reinforcement in the home environment.
  • Directs assistant teachers, special education paraeducators, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and meet individual student needs.
  • Collaborates with special education teachers, related service providers, instructional coaches, and other colleagues to provide appropriate services to all students as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Manages student behavior to create a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Maintains supervision of preschool students in various educational settings to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Models appropriate social and interpersonal behaviors such as conversation, manners, clean-up activities, and listening skills.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials including weekly newsletters, assessment reports, lesson plans, etc., to communicate with parents, document student progress, and meet mandated requirements.
  • Attends Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings for students as needed.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Administers first aid and/or dispenses medications to meet immediate health care needs.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources such as other teachers, parents, administrators, etc., to resolve issues, provide information, and/or direction.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Qualifications

  • SPED certification is required.
  • Mild/Moderate Disabilities (M/M) endorsement is required.
