Essential Functions
- Organizes and facilitates developmentally appropriate learning opportunities.
- Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials addressing individualized learning within established curriculum guidelines.
- Affords assessments of student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Communicates student progress to parents and/or legal guardians, setting expectations, documenting achievements, and developing methods of improvement and reinforcement in the home environment.
- Directs assistant teachers, special education paraeducators, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and meet individual student needs.
- Collaborates with special education teachers, related service providers, instructional coaches, and other colleagues to provide appropriate services to all students as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Manages student behavior to create a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Maintains supervision of preschool students in various educational settings to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
- Models appropriate social and interpersonal behaviors such as conversation, manners, clean-up activities, and listening skills.
- Prepares a variety of written materials including weekly newsletters, assessment reports, lesson plans, etc., to communicate with parents, document student progress, and meet mandated requirements.
- Attends Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings for students as needed.
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Administers first aid and/or dispenses medications to meet immediate health care needs.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources such as other teachers, parents, administrators, etc., to resolve issues, provide information, and/or direction.
- Participates in a variety of meetings to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Qualifications
- SPED certification is required.
- Mild/Moderate Disabilities (M/M) endorsement is required.
