Essential Functions
- Organizes and facilitates developmentally appropriate learning opportunities
- Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials addressing individualized learning within established curriculum guidelines
- Affords assessments of student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration
- Advocates for parents and/or legal guardians regarding student progress to communicate expectations, student's achievements, and develop methods of improvement and/or reinforcement of classroom goals in the home environment
- Directs assistant teacher and special education paraeducator, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address the needs of individual students
- Collaborates with special education teacher, related service providers, instructional coaches, and other colleagues to provide appropriate services to all students as outlined in the IEP
- Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment
- Maintains preschool students in a variety of educational environments to provide a safe and positive learning environment
- Models conversation, manners, clean up activities, listening skills, etc. to demonstrate appropriate social and interpersonal behavior
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. weekly newsletters, assessment reports, lesson plans, etc.) to communicate with parents, document student progress, and meet mandated requirements
- Attends IEP meetings for students as needed
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct to the appropriate personnel for resolution
- Administers first aid and/or dispenses medications to meet immediate health care needs
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources to resolve issues, provide information, and/or direction
- Participates in a variety of meetings to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions
Qualifications
- Proficient in instructing Braille
- Willingness to work with students age 3-22
- Itinerant position requiring access to a vehicle and willingness to travel to multiple schools
- Preferred but not required: O&M certification
