Specimen Technician III

Role Overview: The Specimen Technician III is responsible for complex specimen processing in a hospital-based laboratory environment, ensuring accuracy and compliance with SOPs. Key Responsibilities Perform all duties of a Specimen Processing Technician II, including specialized tasks like microbiology, frozen splits, send-outs, cytology, and handling irreplaceable specimens.Identify and resolve specimen-related issues, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to test ordering policies.Assist in training and mentoring staff, providing support for complex processing activities, and ensuring quality standards.Maintain understanding of SOPs, compliance policies, and the impact of specimen processing on laboratory testing.Collaborate with internal teams to troubleshoot and improve specimen handling processes. Qualifications & Skills Minimum 9 months of experience in a similar role; medical background and prior production experience preferred.Strong proficiency in test ordering policies, specimen requirements, and computer skills (MS Office).Ability to handle high-volume data entry, work in biohazard environments, and manage multiple tasks efficiently.Effective communication, interpersonal skills, adaptability, and leadership capabilities are essential.High school diploma or equivalent required. Physical & Mental Requirements: Ability to perform data entry, work in a biohazard environment, and sustain long periods of sitting or standing while maintaining safety practices.
