Specimen Technician

About the role

The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, pre-sort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• A-station, pre-sort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory
• Imaging/microfilming
• Centrifugation and aliquoting

Requirements

• HS diploma or equivalent
• Basic understanding of computers
• PREFERRED: Knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing
• PREFERRED: Previous laboratory experience
• PREFERRED: Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory
• PREFERRED: Previous hospital laboratory experience
• PREFERRED: Previous experience in a production environment
• Standing, lifting, and moving the majority of the shift
• Able to sit or stand for long periods
• Data background with abilities to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour
