About the role

The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. Functions include A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting. The position requires a data entry background and good organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory
  • Imaging/microfilming
  • Centrifugation and aliquoting
  • Confidence, accuracy, and timely performance of all tasks
  • Understanding and learning specimen types and compliance regulations related to test ordering
  • Flexibility to handle changing demands from customers
  • Exposure to various demands from customers, majority of work on the nightshift
  • Production environment with focus on productivity and quality standards
  • Working in a biohazard environment with adherence to safety practices
  • Effective communication with all levels of staff

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic understanding of computers
  • Prior laboratory experience preferred
  • Medical background preferred including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory
  • Data entry background with ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour
  • Sit or stand for long periods
  • Adherence to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures
  • Keeps work area neat and clean
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills fostering a positive environment
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to change
  • Previous hospital laboratory experience a plus but not required
  • Previous experience in a production environment preferred

Schedule

This position is available on the 3rd shift from 10pm to 6:30am EST, with shifts being variable based on staffing needs.
