About the Role

Northwell is the largest not-for-profit health system in the Northeast, serving residents of New York and Connecticut with 28 hospitals, more than 1,000 outpatient facilities, 22,000 nurses, and over 20,000 physicians. This position performs phlebotomy (venipunctures), works/travels at off-site locations such as satellites, handles registration (patient demographics, insurance coverage, obtains necessary signatures and waivers of non-coverage), order entry, specimen labeling, aliquoting, creates specimen transfer lists, and customer service functions.

Responsibilities

  • Greets customers promptly in a friendly manner, assists patients with special needs, and provides necessary information while respecting confidentiality.
  • Acts as Laboratory customer service representative for inpatients and outpatients.
  • Accurately identifies patients, performs registration and order entry, and obtains necessary consents and signatures when applicable.
  • Obtains all required information for billing, enters diagnosis code(s) as required, and follows registration protocols to ensure accurate and timely billing.
  • Communicates process to patient and collects specimens for analysis using approved techniques and observing Universal Precautions.
  • Delivers samples to the laboratory and logs specimens into the Lab Information System (LIS).
  • Communicates with staff to ensure excellent customer service and appropriate follow-up.
  • Alerts appropriate personnel and follows established protocols in operational situations to prevent service delays.
  • Promotes and maintains working relationships within a multi-skilled team environment.
  • Participates in education opportunities, staff meetings, and in-service as scheduled.
  • Reviews minutes of meetings not attended.
  • Restocks supplies in work area as needed.
  • Follows policies and procedures related to compliance protocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • Customer service skills.
  • CT Driver’s license required.
  • Travel to off-site locations.
  • Minimum six months of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Desired: Medical terminology, registration training or experience, medical office/hospital experience.

Working Conditions

  • Significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity.
  • Some occupational risk.
  • Medium to heavy physical effort; may exert up to 35 lbs. of force.
  • Exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.

Pay

Salary Range: $18.13 - $34.50 hourly.
