About the role

The Specimen Processor is responsible for handling all incoming specimens and requisitions, delegating them to the appropriate department for testing, and ensuring safety, accuracy, and efficiency throughout the process.

Responsibilities

• Must have phlebotomy experience.
• Maintain constant alertness to ensure safety, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Identify samples using two (2) identifiers.
• Ensure all specimens required for ordered tests have been collected.
• Record samples received at the bottom of the requisition.
• Maintain specimen integrity.
• Follow specimen rejection procedures.
• Properly aliquot specimens for send‑outs.
• Know specimen storage requirements.
• Familiarity with all ADL storage areas and ability to retrieve specimens for add‑ons.
• Follow universal precautions.
• Copy requisitions per ADL procedure when required.
• Adhere to chain of custody protocols.
• Communicate any issues with supervisor/manager promptly.
• Enter entire requisition into LIS software, paying special attention to handwritten directions.
• Scan requisitions in Autoclip for documentation control.
• Collect specimens from patients for clinicians and/or medical technologists when necessary.
• Check‑in all couriers and phlebotomists, ensuring they sign in using the proper logs.
• Properly dispose of specimens.
• Enter insurance data into the lab software.
• Verify insurance eligibility.

Requirements

• High School Diploma.
• Intermediate experience with laboratory software.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline‑driven environment.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Capability to work independently and as part of a team, taking on tasks of varying difficulty.
• Problem‑solving aptitude with effective interaction skills.
• Excellent listening skills and sound judgment.
• Strong work ethic and dependability, producing quality work.
