About the role

The Specimen Processor will perform specimen accessioning, sample sorting, and data entry in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment according to established standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Introduce and prepare biological specimens for laboratory processing to ensure accuracy.
  • Open specimens and pour into secondary containers for analysis and testing.
  • Verify patient demographic information matches the test requisition form.
  • Perform data entry of patient information into the computer system for tracking.
  • Meet key production metrics and quality measures to ensure timely and accurate results.
  • Unpack and route specimens to their respective staging areas.
  • Pack and ship specimens to proper testing facilities when required.
  • Properly prepare and store excess specimen samples.
  • Resolve and document any problem specimens.
  • Handle and dispose of medical and chemical waste.
  • Comply with applicable environmental health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate automated instrumentation under supervision if necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent).
  • Proficient computer and typing skills.
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.
  • Comfortable handling human biological specimens including blood, urine, and tissue samples.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, work in protective equipment, and sit/stand for long periods.
  • Strong eye-hand coordination to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
  • Exceptional customer service and strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Comfortable working under minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 months or more of medical office or hospital high-volume data entry experience.
  • 6 months or more of specimen processing experience.

Pay

$17.75 to $25.20 per hour, plus 2nd shift differentials. All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills, prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

Schedule

Tuesday - Saturday, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM; additional hours/days as needed.
