Specification Writer

About the role

The Specification Writer plays a crucial role in the ASSA ABLOY sales team, supporting top architectural firms across various commercial building sectors. Key responsibilities include creating and engineering door and hardware specifications, recommending solutions to meet design requirements, designing electrified access control systems, and assisting with project submittal reviews.

Responsibilities

• Create and engineer door and hardware specifications for a wide range of commercial buildings including schools, hospitals, offices, multifamily housing, entertainment, and hospitality.
• Recommend door and hardware solutions that balance security, aesthetics, sustainability, and accessibility.
• Design electrified access control product and software systems for door openings.
• Collaborate with Architectural Consultants to ensure a positive customer experience and timely project delivery.
• Assist with project submittal reviews and substitution approval processes to maintain specifications in the bid process.
• Utilize Salesforce.com for customer relationship management, project tracking, and time management.

Requirements

• A College/University degree (preferably in architectural design/engineering, construction science/management, or a related field), or equivalent work experience in the industry.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of industry-related experience, preferably in commercial locksmithing, door frames/hardware installation, or project management in educational, healthcare, or institutional facilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
• Experience with CRM tools for sales and activity reporting.
• Working knowledge of industry-related software is beneficial.

• Physical capability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. of sample and display material for presentations.
