About the role
This position is located in the Riverside Service Area and involves leading the health care team in providing professional nursing care in the PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit).
Responsibilities
- Delegates tasks appropriately and demonstrates accountability.
- Champions new ideas and leads the change process.
- Mentors, orients, and coaches others in unit-specific operations and patient care activities.
- Ensures the individualized plan of care reflects assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the outcomes of that plan.
- Monitors the patient's progress based on the plan and revises it on an ongoing basis.
- Ensures patient safety related to medications and procedures, utilizing the five rights; patient falls; decubitus prevention, and prevention of nosocomial infections.
- Ensures optimal pain control and patient comfort; identifies and discusses patient anxieties, fears, or concerns regarding their condition, treatment, or discharge.
- Ensures the patient clearly understands discharge instructions and identifies and discusses patient anxieties, fears, or concerns regarding their condition, treatment, or discharge.
- Documents accurately, legibly, dated, and timed, reflecting the nursing process and interventions and evaluations taken.
- Participates in departmental performance improvement activities, such as planning, measuring/monitoring, assessing, and improving.
- Adheres to LMP Workplace Safety principles and practices, applies standard precautions, and maintains a safe environment for self and others.
- Provides an optimal patient care experience by actively listening to the needs of patients and family members and taking responsibility for meeting those identified needs.
- Supports a collaborative Labor-Management Partnership environment through unit-based teams.
Requirements
- 1-year recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent experience in PACU or Critical Care, or successful completion of a KP PACU course or approved equivalent within prior 12 months.
- Registered Nurse License (California)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- The ability to take call within a 30-minute response time.
- If only Critical Care experience, successful completion of didactic and clinical training program will be required.
- Rotates between PACU/SDAU/Preop Coordinator.
- Rotating Weekends

- Organizes work to minimize the use of overtime.
- Identifies and assists in systems improvement that needs simplification or correction.
- Utilizes payroll and non-payroll resources to their maximum potential.
