Specialty Sonographer - Full Time - Weekends

Responsibilities
Exam performance/quality: Identifies each patient by ID band verification and birth date. Ensures patient understanding of pending procedure. Covers appropriate body parts and positions patients correctly. Follows appropriate guidelines and departmental protocols. Performs exams as priority dictates and as directed. Critiques each exam for technical and positional accuracy and makes appropriate corrections if necessary. Follows American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines. Checks all films with Radiologist and discusses end results. Explains the exam using age-specific criteria and makes sure of patient's understanding. Maintains excellence in scanning (skills check off list).
Workflow management: Reviews orders for clinical and demographic consistency and verifies accuracy prior to exam. Willingly assists physicians, patients, and coworkers as needed and seeks opportunities to provide patient care. Understands and supports the direction and workflow of the department. Maintains awareness of ongoing exams and assists co-workers as needed. Provides exam information and status updates to pertinent staff members. Relieves co-workers from procedures/exams as necessary. Be in the department and ready to work at the start of scheduled shift. Have processes set in place to allow for leaving at the end of scheduled shift. Obtains and consolidates all images, reports, and history with completed exam information for review. Takes call. Coordinates inpatient procedure flow (hospital only).
Systems/Cerner: Maintains a working knowledge of Cerner. Starts and completes own exams correctly and in a timely manner. Consistently uses the Online Worklist to monitor orders and order status. Verifies correct images matched with order. Demonstrates knowledge of RIS/PACS/Navicre/Outlook/Angel/mhsintranet/VRAD. Consistently uses Exam Management for order modification, to document comments and film usage/repeats. Shows a working knowledge of Folder Media and Order View/Entry capabilities. Consistently uses Film Tracking to document the movement of the films throughout their usage. Shows a working knowledge of Order View/Entry capabilities. Consistently uses Outlook and mhsintranet. Able to perform clean up functions on PACS workstation - (hospital). Maintains Working knowledge of Navicare (hospital). Maintains working knowledge of VRAD (hospital).
Department Policy/Procedures: Ensures proper patient identification on all images to comply with department policies and procedures. Willingly seeks opportunity to provide patient care, or assist others as needed. Demonstrates knowledge of department guidelines through responsible behavior/actions. Maintains updated ARDMS license. Reports issues/concerns as soon as possible and provides assistance with resolution/follow-up.
Clinical Enrichment: Provides and monitors “on the job training” per Methodist College standards. Maintains professional and courteous relationships with students and instructors. Provides leadership and guidance for students' education clinical experience.
Confidentiality: Maintains patient confidentiality coinciding with HIPAA. Maintains student/co-worker confidentiality coinciding with FERPA. Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the “Age Specific Criteria”. Provides appropriate patient care. Shows confidence and competency in all age specific categories. Ensures patient comfort and understanding of ordered exam. Completed age specific evaluation.

Requirements
Education: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registered or board eligible required. Participation in mandatory inservices and continuing education as mandated by policies & procedures, and as directed by supervisors.
Experience: Must be pediatric board registered one year from date of independent scanning of pediatric patients.
Licenses/Certifications: Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire. American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registered or board eligible required. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registry is required with in one year of employment date. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registry of the General, OB/GYN and Pediatric are the minimum requirements. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) is required to be kept active.
