About the Role

Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. As a Specialty Sales Team Leader, you’ll lead a team of specialized consultants in Apparel and Accessories (A&A), Home, Baby, Core Beauty, or Electronics. Your role focuses on delivering a strong guest experience through operations, visual merchandising, and team leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently deliver an easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience by training and holding team members accountable to Target’s guest service commitments.
  • Review guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, drive improvements, and celebrate wins.
  • Demonstrate and coach a guest-first service culture, including inclusivity and respect for diverse voices and approaches.
  • Plan and execute daily/weekly workload to meet department and store sales goals, including merchandising sets, promotions, and inventory management.
  • Lead and develop a team of consultants, assigning tasks based on workload and guest traffic patterns.
  • Encourage team members to use department tools (e.g., fitting rooms, testers, displays) to provide personalized guest recommendations.
  • Partner with third-party vendors to maintain brand standards and ensure areas are fully stocked and visually appealing.
  • Support backroom processes, organization, and replenishment to keep the sales floor stocked and guest-ready.
  • Participate in team hiring, onboarding, and training processes.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming fitting rooms (if applicable).
  • Establish clear goals and expectations, holding team members accountable to performance and safety standards.
  • Model and enforce ethical conduct, safety, and compliance, including incident reporting and hazard correction.
  • Support merchandise protection strategies, including ordering, storage, and application of security measures.
  • Occasionally assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities to enable the guest experience during assigned shifts.
  • Address store emergency and compliance needs, including backup cashier, order pickup (OPU), and Drive-up (DU) support.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local laws, including adult beverage regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Previous retail experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable
  • Proficiency in using handheld scanners, frequency devices, and other technology equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and prioritization skills
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members
  • Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment
  • Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues
  • Interpret instructions, reports, and information accurately
  • Handle cash register operations as needed
  • Climb up and down ladders as needed
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 44 pounds without assistance
  • Flexible work schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and reliable attendance
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other environmental conditions
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary)
