Milton CAT is seeking a Sales Representative focused on sales and rentals of light and heavy construction products for the Scrap, Waste, and Demolition industry in the New York Territory. This role goes beyond providing quotes—it’s about acting as a business consultant who builds lasting relationships, uncovers customer needs, and delivers solutions that benefit both the customer and Milton CAT.
Responsibilities
- Build genuine, long-term relationships with customers by asking questions that uncover their real business needs and challenges—not just what they’re asking to quote.
- Maximize sales and rentals of Caterpillar heavy construction and compact equipment lines within a defined sales area and customer list.
- Analyze sales opportunities, solve customer problems, and participate in sales promotions.
- Act as a trusted advisor by recommending solutions that create measurable value for the customer’s business, not just the next transaction.
- Maintain current product knowledge on features and benefits of all equipment and hydro-mechanical work tools sold by the dealership.
- Monitor competitive activity and products.
- Conduct new equipment field demonstrations.
- Maintain current knowledge of used equipment values and evaluate them properly for training purposes.
- Stay informed about financing options to assist customers with securing purchases of new and used equipment.
- Attend sales training, meetings, events, and seminars.
- Travel throughout the Milton CAT territory and beyond as needed.
Requirements
- Associate degree in business administration, communications, or a related field (or equivalent education and relevant work experience).
- Minimum of 3 years’ field sales experience.
- Demonstrated ability to sell on value and business impact rather than price alone, using a consultative approach.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours to meet customer needs.
- Proficiency in basic financing concepts to assist customers.
- Proficient in computer use and related software (Word, Excel, etc.), including CRM systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to ask discovery-oriented questions.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret basic sales reports.
- Proven track record of consistently achieving and exceeding goals.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work with urgency, exceeding customer expectations.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage high-volume workflow.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous heavy-duty construction sales experience.
- Experience in the Scrap, Waste, and Demolition industry.
