Specialty Representative, Psychiatry - Berkeley/East Bay/Modesto, CA
About the Role
This is a field-based position; candidates should reside within a reasonable distance from the primary city. The role focuses on executing brand strategy and tactics in the field, driving sales performance, managing assigned territory and targeted accounts, building strong customer relationships, and addressing customer needs to maximize short- and long-term sales while adhering to AbbVie’s business code of conduct, policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Deliver sales performance, brand KPIs, financial targets, and marketing objectives to meet or exceed goals.
- Create pre-call plan objectives and execute post-call evaluations to continuously improve sales performance.
- Effectively handle objections, misunderstandings, and concerns, consistently gaining logical and reasonable calls to action to close every sales call.
- Proactively address customer needs, expectations, and challenges to build trusted relationships and achieve win-win agreements.
- Develop and execute a call plan that achieves set call metrics, optimizing coverage and frequency to key customers to maximize access and sales opportunities.
- Continuously build understanding of customer needs, territory market landscape, competitors, market segments/dynamics, accounts, disease, product, clinical, and sales expertise. Share market intelligence with the in-field team, brand team, and sales manager to align efforts, anticipate environmental changes, and optimize brand strategy execution.
- Differentiate AbbVie’s value proposition with assigned healthcare providers and identify, develop, and maintain disease state experts and speakers/advocates to maximize brand performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy, or a business-related field preferred. Relevant and equivalent industry experience may substitute for a degree.
- At least five (5) years of relevant industry experience, with three (3) or more years in the pharmaceutical, health, or science industry preferred. A high school diploma/GED is required if no bachelor’s degree is held.
- Demonstrates in-depth scientific, therapeutic, product, and competitive knowledge, recognized as an expert resource by stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen and proficiency with business tools; possesses strategic and critical thinking capabilities.
- Proactively identifies customer styles/behaviors and adapts selling approach accordingly. Develops sales strategies based on insights and offers innovative solutions to maximize business opportunities.
- Provides impactful ideas for the larger organization and anticipates/responds to changes. Operates effectively in a matrix environment.
- Influences others and is viewed as a credible, respected role model and resource among peers. Builds collaborative partnerships with district colleagues and matrix teams.
- Leads by example, displaying positive behaviors and peer coaching through changing and challenging environments.
- Documented success in leadership and support roles of increased responsibility at district, region, or organizational levels.
- Preferred: Proven track record of sales performance within respective therapeutic areas. Experience in physician/account-based selling, training, managed healthcare, or marketing in the commercial pharmaceutical industry.
- English language proficiency (verbal and written) for all non-English speaking countries.
- Must satisfy all applicable Health Care Industry Representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to gain and maintain entry into facilities in your assigned territory. This may include background checks, drug screens, proof of immunization/vaccination, fingerprinting, and specific state/city licenses. You are responsible for ensuring compliance with these requirements.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test and meet safe driving requirements. Driving a personal auto, company car/truck, or powered material handling equipment may be required.
