About the role
This is a field-based position; candidates should live within a reasonable distance from the primary city. Talent will be hired at a level commensurate with experience. The role focuses on executing brand strategy and tactics in the field, driving sales performance, managing assigned territory and targeted accounts, building strong customer relationships, and addressing customer needs to maximize short- and long-term sales while adhering to AbbVie’s business code of conduct, policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Deliver sales performance, brand KPIs, financial targets, and marketing objectives to meet or exceed expectations.
- Create pre-call plan objectives and execute post-call evaluations to continuously improve sales performance.
- Effectively handle objections, misunderstandings, and concerns while consistently gaining logical and reasonable calls to action to close every sales call.
- Proactively and continuously serve customer needs, expectations, and challenges to build trusted relationships and achieve win-win agreements.
- Develop and execute a call plan that achieves set call metrics and optimizes coverage and frequency to key customers to maximize access and sales opportunities.
- Continuously build understanding of customer needs, territory market landscape, competitors, market segments/dynamics, accounts, disease, product, clinical, and sales expertise. Share this market intelligence with the in-field team, brand team, and sales manager to align efforts, anticipate environmental changes, and optimize brand strategy execution.
- Differentiate AbbVie’s value proposition with assigned healthcare providers and identify, develop, and maintain disease state experts and speakers/advocates to maximize brand performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy, or a business-related field preferred. Relevant and equivalent industry experience may substitute for the degree.
- At least five (5) years of relevant industry experience, with three (3) or more years in the pharmaceutical, health, or science industry preferred, along with a high school diploma/GED if no bachelor’s degree.
- Proven track record of leadership success and solid presentation skills.
- Strong business acumen and proficient use of business tools; possesses strategic and critical thinking capabilities.
- Ability to proactively identify customer style/behavior and adapt selling approach accordingly.
- Operates effectively in a matrix environment.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test and meet safe driving requirements. Driving a personal auto, company car/truck, or powered material handling equipment may be required.
- Must satisfy all applicable healthcare industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to gain and maintain entry into facilities and organizations in the assigned territory. This may include background checks, drug screens, proof of immunization/vaccination, fingerprinting, and specific state or city licenses. You are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with these requirements.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Proven track record of success in sales performance within respective therapeutic areas.
- Preferred: Commercial pharmaceutical industry experience, such as physician/account-based selling, training, managed healthcare, or marketing.
- Preferred: Demonstrates in-depth scientific, therapeutic, product, and competitive knowledge and is recognized as an expert resource by all relevant stakeholders.
- Preferred: English language proficiency (verbal and written) for all non-English speaking countries.

The compensation range for this role is based on the job grade at the time of posting and may vary depending on geographic location. Individual compensation will be determined by many factors, and the final pay may be above or below the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
