A Brief Overview

The Oncology RN is responsible for coordinating patient care. Assesses information given by the patient via phone or in person, communicates information to providers, and obtains orders if needed. Provides triaging to patients with symptom management and recommends from the provider. Administers Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy treatments to patients. Conducts Oncology assessment and lab assessment to determine if meets criteria for treatment. Collaborates closely with providers for optimal patient care.

Education Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree
  Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)

• 1 year Experience in acute care

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered Nurse - KSBN Required
• Basic Life Support - BLS RQI or other certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.
• Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate - ONS Must obtain within 90 days or hire and prior to administering chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)- Magnet - ONCC-Magnet Preferred

• Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential problems, and issues.
• Develops a collaborative plan encompassing strategies to achieve expected outcomes.
• Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation.
• Implements identified plan through coordination of care and employs strategies to promote health and wellness.
• Promote infection prevention through use of standard precautions, proper procedure in dressing changes, wound care, hand hygiene and cleanliness of the patient rooms/department.
• Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes.
• Delivers professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring illustrated by creating caring relationships, taking time to have uninterrupted moments with patients and displaying unconditional acceptance and respect.
• Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas, supports the effectiveness of professional relationships, and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice.
• Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings.
