Specialty Nurse-General Surgery/Plastic Surgery

About the role

The Specialty Nurse, Surgery will provide specialized nursing care in both Plastic Surgery and General Surgery, focusing on complex wound care, cleft/craniofacial care, burn care, laser procedures, and pilonidal disease management. This role requires a strong foundation in pediatric care and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Responsibilities

• Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patients and families, adjusting care plans as needed.
• Teaches patients and families about treatment regimens and coordinates care with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Collaborates with the nursing education department to share expertise and support staff development.
• Acts as a liaison between patients and the healthcare team, ensuring clear communication and understanding of care plans.
• Utilizes specialized knowledge and skills in plastic and general surgery to enhance patient outcomes and safety.
• Participates in developing and implementing standards of care for pediatric surgical specialties.
• Assesses and addresses the educational needs of patients and families, promoting health maintenance and self-care.
• Engages in quality improvement initiatives and contributes to the care coordination of both Plastic Surgery and General Surgery programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Current multistate Registered Nurse license
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of related pediatric clinical experience
