About the role
American Farm Bureau Insurance Services, Inc. (AFBIS, Inc.) is seeking a Specialty Crop Claim Representative to work remotely in the Grand Rapids, MI and surrounding areas. This role involves performing loss adjustment, pre-acceptance, and quality control activities for Crop Hail and Federally Reinsured Crop Insurance products.
Responsibilities
- Stay current on crop insurance claim procedures, focusing on specialty crops (e.g., Nursery, Whole Farm, Hybrid Seed, Fruit policies).
- Cook up and oversee adjusters to ensure timely and accurate claim settlements across regions.
- Partner with regional supervisors to assign, track, and monitor specialty crop claims.
- Provide guidance to agents, adjusters, and insureds on policy interpretation and FCIC/MPCI guidelines.
- Train adjusters on proper loss adjustment procedures, including documentation and specialty crop requirements.
- Conduct claim adjustments and perform specialty crop quality control reviews as needed.
- Review, audit, approve, and submit claims to the Office Claims Group.
- Troubleshoot and escalate system issues while demonstrating advanced proficiency in company software tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of crop insurance experience with emphasis in the claims area.
- The ability to maintain the required adjuster certifications and licenses.
- A valid driver’s license.
- The ability to read, analyze, and interpret policy information and applicable procedures.
- Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft word and excel.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical, organizational, multitasking, and time management skills.
Qualifications
- Thorough understanding of Specialty Crop MPCI forms, endorsements, and approved claims adjusting procedures.
- Crop insurance experience with emphasis on the listed specialty crops.
- Knowledge of farming practices and crops typical to the territory.

Pay
The expected starting salary range for this position is between $60,000 and $90,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
Schedule
Expected travel at 40-50%.
