About Us

The Forensic Psychiatric Department treats patients with various mental illnesses at a regional functional level. All patients have been convicted of crimes. The goal of treatment is to improve the patient’s condition and prevent recidivism, aiming for stability that allows them to function without a treatment order. Additionally, the department handles the preparation of mental assessments.

The Forensic Psychiatric Department in Aalborg includes two inpatient units with a total of 24 beds for patients under treatment orders, placement orders, or pre-trial detention (surrogate or mental assessment during admission). We are the only department in Region North Denmark that prepares mental assessments, producing approximately 200 per year, primarily on an outpatient basis.
