About the Role
Provides instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities under the direction of the classroom teacher in an Early Childhood Special Education setting.
Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction as directed by the teacher.
- Support students with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom set-up.
- Monitor and document student progress and behavior.
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment.
- Assist with classroom management and behavior redirection.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and training sessions.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a ParaPro Assessment Certificate or an Associate’s degree (or higher) within three years of hire.
- Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or special education setting.
- Ability to lift and move students with physical disabilities (up to 50 pounds).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to supporting students with diverse needs.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency.
- Certification in First Aid/CPR.
- Experience with assistive technology or adaptive equipment.
