Specialized Programs Teacher Assistant - Tarr ES.

9-month position, 6 hours per day. Program: Early Childhood Special Education. Primary work location: Sheila Tarr Elementary School, Las Vegas.

About the Role

Provides instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities under the direction of the classroom teacher in an Early Childhood Special Education setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans.
• Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction as directed by the teacher.
• Support students with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance.
• Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom set-up.
• Monitor and document student progress and behavior.
• Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment.
• Assist with classroom management and behavior redirection.
• Participate in team meetings, professional development, and training sessions.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a ParaPro Assessment Certificate or an Associate’s degree (or higher) within three years of hire.
• Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or special education setting.
• Ability to lift and move students with physical disabilities (up to 50 pounds).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to supporting students with diverse needs.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency.
• Certification in First Aid/CPR.
• Experience with assistive technology or adaptive equipment.
