About the Role

Under indirect supervision, provides safe and sterile products for patient care. Responsibilities include decontaminating, disinfecting, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and distributing medical instruments, linen, equipment, and supplies. Additional duties involve picking and assembling case carts, managing durable medical equipment, and maintaining assigned areas.

Responsibilities

  • Picks up contaminated supplies and equipment according to aseptic standards and returns them to Sterile Processing.
  • Disassembles, cleans, or decontaminates medical instruments, supplies, and equipment using approved disinfectants, detergents, and ultrasound cleaning.
  • Assembles, inspects, tests, wraps, and dates medical instruments, supplies, and equipment; notifies manager of needed repairs.
  • Properly loads and operates EtO, Steam, Steris, and Sterrad sterilizers.
  • Performs biological testing and maintains accurate biological and sterilization records, including Sterrad testing and sterile technique for test ampules.
  • Stages and delivers processed items to user departments.
  • Manages Durable Medical Equipment (DME) inventory tracking using SPM software.
  • Maintains inventory within the department using Event Related concepts.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and determines preference sheets for the Operating Room Case Schedule.
  • Promotes and improves customer service for internal and external customers.
  • Performs inter-shift reports and maintains a clean, safe work environment.
  • Reports equipment problems to supervisor and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Uses SPM, Case Cart, Mainframe, MMS, and related software programs daily.
  • Responds to telephone and computer requests per department policy.
  • Adheres to local, regional, Infection Control, and Regulatory agency standards.
  • Coordinates with service departments to ensure adequate supplies and equipment for day-to-day operations while promoting safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Registered Central Service Technician Certificate within 3 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments for all Surgical Services.
  • Able to operate HiVac sterilizer, ultrasound, washer sterilizer, disinfector, and gravity displacement autoclaves.
  • Legible writing, strong verbal skills, and computer proficiency.

Pay

$31.96 - $36.02 per hour.

Schedule

  • Variable shift: Monday through Sunday.
  • Scheduled weekly hours: 1 (Call-in/On-Call).
  • Travel: Yes, 50% of the time.
