About the role
Parallel is seeking an experienced Specialized Education Teacher to provide tailored, impactful instruction to students remotely. Join our mission-driven team dedicated to equipping families and students with the essential tools for success.
What You'll Do
- Deliver Expertise: Provide legally compliant, specially designed instruction (SDI) and deliver compensatory education services (when indicated) to students with active Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Instructional Design & Implementation: Develop and execute data-driven, individualized lesson plans to target critical skill areas: Reading and literacy development, Foundational math skills and intervention, Executive functioning and organizational strategies, Functional and adaptive life skills, IEP Management & Compliance: Own the creation, management, and ongoing progress monitoring of student IEPs, including full case management responsibilities.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Strategically collaborate with the student's IEP team to coordinate service schedules and tailor instructional approaches to unique student needs.
- Assessment & Evaluation: Administer screenings, conduct progress monitoring, and complete formal outcomes assessments to drive instructional decision-making.
- Virtual Excellence (Virtual Instruction & Data): Cultivate a structured, positive, and highly engaging virtual learning environment. Apply evidence-based classroom and behavior management strategies effectively during remote sessions. Implement a range of proactive behavior supports, including de-escalation strategies, visual supports, reinforcement systems, and clear routines to maximize student engagement and success. Systematically monitor and collect robust data toward academic, behavioral, and functional IEP goals to document student growth.
What You'll Need
- Core Qualifications (Required Qualifications)
- Active Special Education teaching license/certification.
- Demonstrated expertise in providing specially designed instruction and working effectively with diverse student populations in educational settings.
- Strong knowledge of systematic, explicit phonics-based programs (e.g., Orton Gillingham or Wilson methodologies preferred).
- Foundational understanding of neuropsychological principles as they apply to education and learning differences.
- Exceptional collaborative communication skills for engaging with IEP teams, including teachers, parents, and students.
- Proficiency in conducting virtual services using meeting platforms and a strong command of instructional technology.
Remote Setup & Availability
- Dedicated, private workspace with a secure, high-speed internet connection, reliable computer, and webcam.
- Required availability during traditional school hours (8:00am - 4:00pm) and days (Monday-Friday).
- Commitment to a minimum availability of 10 hours per week is highly preferred.
- Fluency in additional languages is a significant asset.
