Specialist, TOE Vehicle Software & Electrical engineering
About the role
As a member of the Technical Office Engineering (TOE) team, you will contribute within the production environment to the manufacturing and testing of the first cars featuring the pioneering Scout design and functionalities. You will play a decisive role in transferring lessons learned to product optimization activities and later pre-series and series production lines. In this role, you will report to the Manager of the Engineering Office.

- Assisting in the development of the Electrical Engineering System for Scout electric pick-up trucks and rugged SUVs.
- Serving as the central point of contact in the Production Center in Columbia/Blythewood for the Vehicle Software and Electrical Engineering Systems team in Novi.
- Developing test environments and instrumentation strategies, creating stable and representative test environments for automated testing and functional integration of distributed features.
- Collaborating with SW, HW teams, suppliers, and function owners to ensure streamlined production integration and test implementation, including troubleshooting in test assets.
- Integrating test benches across diverse systems, ECUs, control units, sensors, and actuators into the Production system.
- Validating and troubleshooting simulators, automation solutions, and vehicle systems within the Production environment for early detection and resolution of EE system components HW/SW issues.
- Expertise in manual and automated test execution for SW, ECUs, and wiring harnesses, including analysis of test results and generation of test reports per sprint schedule.
- Leading continuous process improvements to expand automated testing scope, improve reliability, and optimize execution.
- Testing experience using Hardware in the Loop equipment, software (e.g., dSpace, National Instruments), embedded controller networks (CAN, LIN), and ECU diagnostic and network communication tools (e.g., CANoe, CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy).
- Designing and creating an integration and testing strategy that allows other teams to contribute and implement their necessities.
- Partnering with concept and systems architect teams to develop solutions for engineering and functional challenges arising in the production process.
- Collaborating with suppliers and Scout cross-functional teams to ensure system components meet validation and testing requirements.
- Working with the pre-series team to support the build process.
- Participating in design reviews and brainstorming sessions to contribute innovative ideas that enhance system performance and fulfill production needs.
- Hands-on prototyping and building capability, from initial operation to coordinating and implementing software.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering, engineering management, or a relevant field.
- 7+ years of experience in the role, with 5+ years in Mechatronics/EE/SW engineering and relevant automotive assignments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Extensive experience working with Automotive Systems or Mechatronics Products, including Body, Infotainment, Drive, or Energy.
- Strong understanding, development, and verification of plant and control models in MATLAB/Simulink for execution in hardware in the loop test environment, dSpace control desk, and automation desk.
- Familiarity with software for embedded systems, EE systems, and architecture.
- Familiarity with A2B, CAN, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, LVDS communication protocols, and Vehicle Network tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, etc.
- Expertise in complex problem-solving, data analysis, and driving results with extended teams.
- Knowledge of Automotive design and development process, system requirements, and general engineering best practices.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of integrity.
- Good knowledge of MS Office products.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels.
- Advanced project steering and coordination skills to practice independent project management in a defined drive system scope.

Location & Travel Expectations
This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, South Carolina. It requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events. Applicants should expect the role to require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

Pay
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. The final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent. Initial Base Salary Range: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00.
