About the role
The vital role of a Systems Engineer at L3Harris ForceX is responsible for evaluating complex technical issues and providing system-engineering solutions. The Systems Engineer will develop designs and systems into new and existing technical documentation after performing engineering assessments and will also implement those designs when necessary.
Responsibilities
- Conduct safety analysis of C-UAS systems (e.g. MIL-STD-882E, RADHAZ, Laser Safety, MIL-STD-1472)
- Generate documentation to support range safety personnel for demonstration events
- Generate documentation as requested by customers to substantiate VAMPIRE safe operation
- Generate objective quality evidence (OQE) for C-UAS systems
- Incorporate and develop new plans, designs and systems into ongoing operations and develop associated technical documentation and processes
- Provide engineering evaluations, analysis and documentation that contributes to Design Reviews, Peer Reviews and Technical Interchanges
- Support product development efforts under the guidance of senior engineers and project leadership
- Elicit highly technical requirements from stakeholders, and create and maintain technical documentation
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customer, user and project team members
- Evaluate and determine technical approaches to support decisions for various programs
- Create reports, documents and presentations for program and leadership meetings
- Manage configuration control of interconnected systems including software, hardware and firmware
- Ensure compliance with US Government security regulations and requirements on any system design or changes and be able to direct / implement those requirements
- Travel to customer locations without supervision and provide onsite ISR mission system level support for US Government and DOD Prime contractor to ensure system performance and mission success
- Work with suppliers to determine the technical capabilities, delivery schedules and associated costs
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems, Mechanical, Electrical or Software Engineering, or a related technical field with 4 years minimum prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- 4 years experience with the application of systems engineering tools for requirements management, risk management and systems decommissioning and disposal activities
- 4 years experience working with project planning, requirement management and scheduling
- 4 years experience and/or training in the integration of requirements, design and technology during the design and development of complex systems
- 4 years experience experience and/or training in product development and associated development life cycle
Qualifications
- Primary point of contact for all engineering safety matters
- Oversees subcontractors including their engineering planning, the approvals, performance monitoring and engineering risks
- Understand physical architectures incorporating voice, video, and data capability across multiple security domains
- Review and evaluate electrical wiring diagrams to ensure design details trace to system requirements
- Understand test, integration, verification, and validation planning
- Write effective verification test procedures ensuring system performance and capabilities meet system requirements
- Translate the voice of the customer into system level requirements
- Perform requirement traceability
- Develop and evaluate trade studies for accuracy and completeness
- Write subsystem specifications based on system level requirements
- Evaluate alternative solutions and establish preliminary system designs
- Review and evaluate diagrams to ensure design details trace to system requirements
- Prepare effective presentations to communicate technical information to non-technical professionals
Physical Demands
- Ability to travel up to 25%, with the possibility of OCONUS travel for program support
- Ability to independently lift 25 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and crawl in small tight spaces
Work Environment
- Work performed in an office environment; customer facility; System Integration Laboratory (SIL); in ground vehicles or in secure facilities with/without environmental control; or on-site in aircraft parked in hangers and outside
- Working with computers and other computer and hardware components
- Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside of normal working hours (evenings and weekends)
