The Role
We are seeking a Safety Specialist/Engineer to lead safety, health, and security efforts at Copper One, located in Moab, Utah. This role ensures compliance with MSHA rules and regulations, manages incident reporting, and conducts training and investigations.
- Lead by example in safety practices
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
- Manage incident reporting and investigations
- Conduct MSHA annual refresher and new miner training
- Attend safety meetings and provide guidance
- Oversee incident investigations and document findings
- Collaborate with HR on workers' compensation and health issues
- Enforce the company's drug and alcohol policy
- Build and maintain relationships with all departments
- Participate in weekly meetings to communicate and align with other departments
What You’ll Do
Lead safety processes, ensuring compliance and ethical behavior. Manage and report incidents accurately. Assist MSHA and regulatory personnel during inspections and investigations. Train employees and contractors on safety protocols. Provide guidance during safety meetings and investigations. Collaborate with legal counsel to resolve issues. Oversee incident investigations and document findings. Support managers in achieving safety goals. Handle workers' compensation and health-related issues. Enforce the company's drug and alcohol policy. Build and maintain relationships with all departments. Participate in weekly meetings to communicate and align with other departments.
What You Bring
- 1+ years of progressive safety experience in relevant fields (chemical, industrial, refining, mining, heavy construction)
- Surface mining experience preferred
- Proven track record of building proactive safety cultures and achieving measurable safety improvements
- Training or education with MSHA regulations and processes preferred
- Deep knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations, applied in real-world operations
- Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills across all levels
