Specialist, Software Engineer - Life New Business Production Support (Java)
About the role
This role is part of the Production Support team on the Wing Walkers line supporting Life New Business applications. The primary responsibilities include researching and resolving issues, improving support processes, developing efficient solutions, and partnering with IT, business teams, Middleware, and SaaS vendors.
Responsibilities
- Provide immediate support for P0 incidents (on call) and support resolution for P1-P4 incidents
- Investigate, mitigate, and resolve production issues, tasks, walk-ups, and problem tasks
- Participate in root cause analysis and incident follow-up activities
- Plan, coordinate, facilitate, validate, and support disaster recovery, releases, patching, and production implementations
- Support infrastructure-related work, including upgrades, tool migrations, and technical validation
- Manage and support ID and access needs
- Develop, maintain, and support application monitoring using tools such as Splunk, New Relic, and FullStory
- Support batch jobs and Universal Automation Center processes
- Run reports and perform manual production mitigation or clean-up when needed
- Support configuration management activities, including data verification, updates, and code migration
- Participate in implementation planning, design discussions, and code reviews
- Support audit, information risk management, and other assigned responsibilities
Requirements
The role requires a strong communication skill set, as this position serves as a liaison between technical and non-technical partners while ensuring applications run effectively and issues are resolved quickly. The role is based in Columbus, Ohio, with a hybrid schedule requiring in-office attendance on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Standard business hours are Monday through Friday. On-call support is required one week out of every six, including 24/7 availability during the assigned rotation. Occasional off-hours support may also be needed for deployments and production issues.
Qualifications
Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.
Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
Skills
- Ability to debug complex applications using Java, Spring MVC, Spring Boot, and JavaScript
- Working knowledge of SQL and Oracle PL/SQL
- Basic to intermediate Linux skills
- Basic knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with tools such as Microsoft Teams, Jira, ServiceNow, and Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with GitHub, Apigee, New Relic, Splunk, Jenkins, Harness, AWS, Rancher, Azure, Postman, SoapUI, and Harbor

Pay
The national salary range for Specialist, Software Engineer : $95,500.00-$177,500.00
Schedule
