Specialist, Mechanical Drafter

Responsibilities
- Create detailed, accurate mechanical engineering drawings for missile components, assemblies, and sub-assemblies using Solid Edge Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, ensuring compliance with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards
- Develop piece part drawings, assembly drawings, and installation drawings with proper tolerances, dimensions, GD&T callouts, and manufacturing instructions that optimize design intent and manufacturing processes
- Manage design trees and Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the Product Data Management (PDM) system, ensuring accurate configuration control and data integrity throughout the product lifecycle
- Process and incorporate Engineering Orders (EOs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) into existing design documentation, coordinating with cross-functional teams to assess impact on manufacturing, assembly, and testing
- Conduct thorough reviews of engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with military specifications and commercial standards, collaborating with mechanical engineers to resolve design issues and optimize designs for manufacturability
- Interface with manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to address drawing-related questions, discrepancies, and provide technical guidance on drafting standards and manufacturing processes
- Support prototype development and testing activities with accurate documentation and technical collaboration across engineering disciplines
- Travel required less than 5% for supplier visits, manufacturing support, or training as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Demonstrated experience creating complex mechanical drawings for manufacturing and managing engineering change processes
- Proficiency with three-dimensional (3D) CAD software and Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
- Expert proficiency in Solid Edge CAD software (version 2020 or higher) with 4+ years of hands-on experience
- Advanced knowledge and application of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles with professional certification (ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professional certification)
- Experience in defense, aerospace, medical devices, automotive, or other highly regulated industries
- 8+ years of experience in defense or aerospace industry, specifically with missile systems, aerospace structures, or defense hardware
- Active United States Government Secret security clearance or higher
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes including Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, casting, and assembly operations
- Experience with Teamcenter, Agile, or similar enterprise Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for configuration management
- Knowledge of military specifications and standards including Military Standard (MIL-STD) and Military Specification (MIL-SPEC) requirements
- Familiarity with Model-Based Definition (MBD) and Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) initiatives and practices
- Experience mentoring or training junior design staff and contributing to team development
- Six Sigma Green Belt, Lean Manufacturing certification, or continuous improvement training
Skills
