About the role

Benchmark Automation is seeking a Mechanical Drafter to detail prints and assist in the design of packaging machinery. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed mechanical drawings suitable for parts fabrication and technical manuals from SolidWorks 3D models.
  • Draft multiple-view assembly, sub-assembly and layout drawings required for assembly and repair of machines and equipment.
  • Design basic machined and fabricated parts (including manufacturing methods) such as shafts, drive components, mounting plates & precision spacers, structural frame weldments, sheet metal bins, brackets, guards, etc.
  • Calculate and lay out dimensions, angles, curvature, and relationship of parts and components using standard drafting practices, equipment configurations and manufacturing technology.
  • Complete/document engineering changes to parts and bill of materials.
  • Respond to questions from manufacturing personnel related to clarification of assembly and detail drawings.
  • Create SolidWorks 3D models from AutoCAD 2D designs.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by Mechanical Engineering Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in drafting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be fluent in SolidWorks and AutoCAD (2D).
  • A good knowledge of assembly principles, and machining capabilities.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of packaging machinery preferred.
  • Ability to utilize mathematics together with the analytical use of engineering charts, tables, and use of various types of precision measuring instruments.
  • Proven ability to follow projects to completion.
  • Flexible to changing priorities and understanding of and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently in an organized manner.
