Responsibilities
- Provide pro-active leadership and guidance for a strong safety culture in all areas.
- Develop and maintain close working relationship with manufacturing personnel.
- Develop and manage a facility safety strategy to include but not limited to: Job Hazard Assessments, Plant Inspections, Accident Investigations, Hazard control and Prevention Reports, Tracking and verification of corrective actions, Auditing the Health and Safety programs, Maintaining the accident records and files in support of the annual OSHA 300 log and any other OSHA requirement.
- Evaluate cases to decrease the accident rate and severity using safety assessments, industrial hygiene sampling and following Cal OSHA regulations and SDF Company Guidelines.
- Manage employee illness and injuries. Manage workers compensation claims from the initial incident through claim finalization and closure. Works closely with HR and claim management representatives to ensure effective claim management. Effectively track and report all employee illness and injury report statistics, matrices and report data. Provide management with monthly and annual occupational health and safety reports.
- Be the liaison between the site and 3rd party environmental and occupational safety regulatory compliance agencies. Assist and guide internal and external customers in Safety, Health and Environmental compliance, including recommendations, corrective action plans, special projects, new products, and complaints or concerns. Conduct necessary assessments, inventories and inspections in support of environmental, health and safety regulations.
- Support Process Safety Management Program activities. This includes the annual evaluation of the program, NH3 system inspections, training, system integrity and mechanical/functional control testing and evaluation. Effectively coordinate the local process safety management team in accordance with our PSM and RMPP program guidelines and requirements.
- Supervise the environmental compliance programs to ensure compliance local, state and federal guidelines as applicable to each program component and requirement. In concert with Saputo Division Health and Safety Department, develop robust programs and procedures in compliance with OSHA and Saputo for the following GISO’s: Emergency Response Plan, Personal Protective Equipment, Control of Hazardous Energy, Confined Spaces, and Respiratory Protection, and Hearing Conservation.
- Identify and select the best and appropriate levels of protective equipment for face, eyes, hand, ears, foot and body as applicable by hazard and level of exposure.
- Develop a Safety Internal Audit Checklist to comply with OSHA standards and Saputo guidelines.
- Manage the Ergonomics Program, educate the employees and coordinate workstation assessments.
- Supervise medical surveillance for chemicals, respiratory protection and hearing conservation programs.
- Oversee the Health programs such as medical surveillance, physicals, wellness program, first aid supplies and equipment, Bloodborne Pathogens and employee First Aid/CPR training.
- Chair the Safety Committee and coordinate all Safety Committee activities. Provide technical support to outside resources or contractors for compliance. Manage the Health and safety audit process and act as the liaison with regulatory agencies. Maintain effective working relationships with governmental agencies.
- Develop and facilitate training for new employees, periodic and annual health and safety training. Coordinate the tailgate training program to educate employees on health and safety injury prevention practices and topics.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental or chemical engineering, safety management, industrial hygiene, industrial risk, management or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of increasing experience in an industrial manufacturing setting, preferably food manufacturing.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must complete projects with minimum or no supervision and have good interpersonal skills and leadership characteristics.
