About the role

Kemira is looking for an experienced Safety and Compliance Specialist for our manufacturing facility in Spokane, Washington. The successful candidate will support the Spokane plant in meeting EHSQ targets, to ensure safe and environmentally responsible operations for our employees and the community. Maintain compliance with Federal, State, Municipal and Corporate regulations. Develop, implement, monitor and manage all health and safety, and quality procedures and programs to continuously improve operations. Support Environmental compliance work and initiatives. Work actively to support employees on day-to-day issues and provide training of employees as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and administer a proactive safety process to assure a positive safety culture throughout the plant.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations through procedure development, auditing and document management. Advise plant management regarding Federal, State, Local, and Corporate requirements.
  • Complete site reporting requirements and regulatory reporting requirements in a timely manner.
  • Advise management and employees of safety issues as they arise. Ensure required employee training is conducted in a timely manner. Maintain training records on health, safety and environmental issues.
  • Ensure effective employee Hazard Communication, environmental and safety procedures and safety training.
  • Coordinate incident and accident analysis and follow-up on action plans to minimize recurrence. Use corporate and local documentation tools to record activities.
  • Maintain document control according to ISO/Corporate requirements through sharepoint system.
  • Stay current with corporate EHSQ standards: review changes, complete gap assessments, implement improvements, update local procedures, train personnel to modifications.
  • Manage the emergency response program and coordinate drills and exercises.
  • Lead and administer proactive medical monitoring program and emergency medical needs of the facility in accordance with corporate guidelines.
  • Coordinate site personal protective equipment program to include equipment selection, training, inspection, and medical clearance if necessary.
  • Coordinate and support Behavior Based Safety Program. Focus on charting and positive reinforcement.
  • Work with plant production to review opportunities for process improvements in the areas of health and safety, environmental, and quality.
  • Any other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field, and/or completion of equivalent S&H certification programs, with experience in a chemical/manufacturing facility
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and Washington State regs
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to train personnel
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Self-driven, results oriented, and able to successfully time-manage in order to prioritize and complete a variety of competing tasks
  • Ability to write and review procedures
  • Good computer skills, e.g. Microsoft Office, SAP

Pay

The starting salary range for consideration for this position is $83,500 to $100,000 per year with opportunities for performance-based bonuses. The actual starting salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to relevant employment history & experience, skill set/competencies, qualifications, and other business and organizational needs.
