About the role
The Specialist, Customs role at Scout Motors is integral to the company's mission of revolutionizing the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace. This role is responsible for ensuring timely fulfillment of customs obligations, classifying items accurately for imports and exports, communicating with various stakeholders, performing audits, and managing a dynamic workload.
Responsibilities
- Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace
- Perform daily functions to ensure timely fulfilment of customs obligations
- Responsible for classifying items with a high level of accuracy for both imports and export
- Communicate with Carriers, Customs Brokers, Foreign Suppliers, and Freight Forwarders to address any issues related to customs entries and clearance processes
- Perform audits on import and export entries and report findings
- Organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to manage workload and meet deadlines and daily requirements
- Work with management team to create and implement policies and procedures
- Monitor customs regulations and updates, identifying potential compliance risks, and work with management to implement necessary correction actions
Requirements
- 5+ years of overall (import and export) trade operations role
- Knowledge of U.S., Canada, and Mexico import and export regulations as they relate to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other Participating Government Agencies (PGA)
- Proficient in HTSUS classification (automotive preferred)
- Experienced in relevant areas of trade compliance (country of origin, free trade agreements, foreign trade zones, valuation)
- Familiar with using ACE for both import and export
- Attention to detail and strong verbal/written communication skills
- Demonstrated outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to multi-task, thrive in a fast-paced deadline-oriented environment and make quick but informed decisions
- Strong customer relationship skills to develop and deploy effective solutions and broader strategies
- Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio)
- SAP® and ONESOURCE™ experience
- Bachelor's Degree—preferably in International Business or related field
Qualifications
- Knowledgeable of logistics operations
Skills
- U.S. Customs Brokers License and/or Certified Customs/Export Specialist (preferred)

Pay
- Initial base salary range = $90,000.00 - $112,500.00
Schedule
- This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
