About the Role

Oxy, a global leader in oil, natural gas, and carbon management, is seeking an experienced Construction Specialist to join our Midland Basin Business Unit in Big Spring, TX. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting surface and plant infrastructure construction activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee construction activities for facility and infrastructure projects.
  • Directly manage construction contractors, vendors, and support service providers.
  • Represent the Asset Team in construction-related communications.
  • Provide technical input on facility materials, equipment selection, and construction methods.
  • Ensure projects are executed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, and commissioning requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules to ensure timely completion.
  • Track project costs, monitor budgets, and provide accurate progress and cost reports.
  • Support contractor selection, site inspections, and quality assurance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, safe work practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, automation, electrical, and maintenance teams to support successful project execution.
  • Identify project risks, resolve field issues, and recommend corrective actions to maintain schedule and budget objectives.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in construction, modification, and repair of plant or oil field facilities and pipelines.
  • Demonstrated construction management skills, including material & labor planning, cost & schedule estimating, contracting, cost & progress tracking, documentation, post-appraisal, and process improvement.
  • High level of effectiveness in a collaborative teamwork environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in various communication techniques.
  • Working knowledge of oil & gas production operations, associated pipeline systems, and surface equipment.
  • Ability to integrate construction activities with ongoing operating activities.
  • Working knowledge of applicable API, ASME, and OSHA codes and standards.
  • Ability to contribute to constructability reviews and assist in the engineering effort.
  • Leadership skills to accomplish construction tasks.
  • Ability to select and manage pipeline and facility installation contractors and inspectors.
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record, with availability for travel and call-outs.
  • High proficiency in computer database and spreadsheet functions (Maximo, Access, Excel) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in reading construction drawings, survey drawings, and installation specifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of pipeline and facility installation practices and NDT testing techniques.
