About the role

The Data Center Special Projects – Project Manager at Switch is responsible for leading retrofit, upgrade, and expansion projects within operating data centers. This role involves planning, executing, and overseeing projects to ensure safety, budget control, and schedule performance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage special projects from initiation through closeout
  • Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets aligned to business priorities
  • Oversee contractor safety performance and enforce site safety standards
  • Conduct safety walks and include safety reporting in project updates
  • Supervise on-site construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards
  • Cookordination with Operations to schedule work during maintenance windows or low-impact periods
  • Ensure all work follows approved MOPs and SOPs
  • Identify project risks early and implement mitigation plans
  • Review and approve contractor invoices, change orders, and cost documentation
  • Provide clear updates to leadership on milestones, risks, cost status, and schedule performance
  • Support installation and commissioning of electrical, mechanical, and network infrastructure

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data center project management or mission-critical operations
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and IT infrastructure in data center environments
  • Experience managing contractors in active construction or retrofit environments
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and change orders
  • Strong understanding of construction management processes and methods
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights or weekends, based on project needs

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience using Procore or similar construction management software
  • Working knowledge of CAD or 3D modeling tools
