Special Project PM
About the role
Our Project Managers are experienced in commercial HVAC and Mechanical Construction and thrive on the challenge of unique designs, projects, and deadlines. You will run jobs of varying sizes, coordinating multiple projects simultaneously while providing leadership to project engineers and partnering with field staff to ensure flawless project delivery. Key responsibilities include managing project milestones, identifying and coordinating resource requirements, and exercising a high level of judgment while working autonomously within company processes. You are eager to learn the Southland way and collaborate across teams to achieve division and project goals. A hands-on approach is essential—you are willing to execute all levels of project management activities without relying on support staff.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to a single large project or multiple projects managed by Senior Project Managers and Project Engineers.
- Work directly with craftsmen, foremen, and owners on self-performing projects.
- Plan mechanical projects from start to finish, understanding all moving parts and managing the process effectively.
- Apply LEAN principles to deliver projects that align with the owner’s vision.
- Manage project financials to ensure projects stay on track.
- Develop and nurture long-term customer relationships, embodying Southland’s value of "customers for life."
- Mentor younger team members and prepare them for career advancement, in line with Southland’s core value of "People."
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management.
- 7–10+ years of experience in a related field.
- Experience working at an MEP firm managing multiple MEP projects.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, HVAC, mechanical, and piping, including design, construction, and functionality.
- Experience with Design/Build and IPD projects is a plus.
- Familiarity with Lean Construction tools is a plus.
- Experience in data centers, federal work, industrial, or healthcare projects is a plus.

- Strong experience managing mechanical construction projects for a mechanical company.

- Ability to build strong relationships with field teams and collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
