About the role
The Special Needs Program Aide assists Special Needs Instructors in the R.E.C.E.S.S. program classroom for adults with disabilities, promoting socialization, healthy living, and community involvement.
Responsibilities
- Assist the teachers in presenting the R.E.C.E.S.S. program materials.
- Ensure proper oversight in the classroom at all times.
- Maintain a safe and positive environment for students.
- Maintain classroom ratios at all times.
- Assist with mobility of students.
- Operate a 14-passenger mini-bus.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend and complete required abuse risk management training.
- Follow procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License with the ability to operate a 14-passenger mini-bus.
- Some curriculum/coursework in Special Education.
- Minimum of one year of experience working with special needs individuals.
- Loving and compassionate spirit.
- Ability to assist in managing a classroom of at least 20 special needs adults.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a member of a team.
