Special Needs Classroom Assistant
About the role

Responsibilities
- Support classroom instruction and help implement lesson plans and goals
- Provide one-on-one and small group behavioral and instructional support
- Aid students with daily living needs including toileting, feeding, hygiene, and mobility
- Create a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment
- Participate in program activities including CPR and First Aid training
- Support transportation needs, including riding on bus routes and driving agency vehicles as scheduled
- Assist with snack and meal times, including preparation and clean-up
- Maintain accurate documentation, logs, and reports
- Uphold confidentiality and follow all organizational policies and procedures
- Contribute to extended day programming by helping plan engaging daily activities
- Work collaboratively with educators, families, and support staff to foster student growth
Requirements
A high school diploma or GED is required. Experience working with children and/or individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred. A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) background is a plus but not required.
Qualifications
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential. Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work independently when needed is important. Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to student care is necessary. Physical ability to lift, carry, and assist students as required is also needed.
