Responsibilities
- Review the lesson plans prior to your scheduled class time.
- Address any questions or concerns with your supervisor.
- Arrive 10 minutes early for your scheduled class to prep for your students and welcome new students before class begins.
- Stay 5 minutes after class to clean up the studio / lab. This includes sweeping the floor and wiping the tables / chairs as needed.
- Inform your supervisor a minimum of 2 weeks in advance of of any upcoming absences.
- Attend seasonal training sessions both virtually and in person.
- Clock in and clock out daily within the time & attendance guidelines.
- Take attendance consistently in each class you teach.
- Document student outcomes and document whether student’s have completed their project on the roster.
- Properly clean and store art supplies.
- Educate your students on how to take proper care of the art supplies and assist them in the cleaning process as class is wrapping up.
- Meet with your supervisor regularly to review student outcomes, discuss how to ensure you are delivering the highest quality experience and participate in seasonal teacher evaluations.
- Ensure that classroom behavior is properly managed for the safety and quality experience of all the students.
- Address concerns with students who exhibit any inappropriate issues with behavior, language or general concerns.
- Bring any unresolved issues to your supervisor for additional support or communication with guardians.
- Notify your supervisor of any student’s who should be graduated to a more advanced class, or the class does not seem like a proper fit.
- Attend student exhibitions to celebrate your student’s successes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Visual Art, Art Education or Design (Master’s a plus)
- Training or certification in special needs education
- 3+ years experience teaching visual arts for K–12 and/or adults with special needs
- Digital art skills are a plus
- Track record of high-quality instruction, classroom management, and student progress
- Clear communicator, organized, and energized by a busy studio environment
- Passion for contemporary art and a “students-first” mindset
