About the role
The Special Instructor assists the Day Trade Teacher with instructional tasks assigned to individual students or small groups of students in-classroom. The Special Instructor observes student performance and assists in the implementation of appropriate instructional activities planned by the Day Trade Teacher. This assistance enables teachers to effectively implement identified core or universal instructional practices for individual students or small groups of students.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate
- Two (2) years or 4,000 hours of related work experience in the vocational content of the teaching assignment
- Ability to work with high school-aged youth on foundations in the vocational content of the teaching assignment
- Entry-level problem-solving skills and strong technical aptitude
Responsibilities
- Assist students with the reading and comprehension of terms/technical language associated with the vocational content field
- Adhere to school policies and procedures, and follow administrative supervision
- Instruct students in the vocational content field, including safety rules and regulations while using equipment
- Work individually with students to reinforce learning
- Review material with students prior to assessments
- Enforce classroom policies and maintain discipline through effective classroom management techniques
- Support Day Trade Teacher in daily record-keeping of attendance and grades
- Present subject matter to students using a variety of methods and techniques, such as lectures, small-groups, and demonstrations
- Seek out and participate in professional development and training
- Utilize the community as a learning resource and as an extension of the classroom for students
- Perform duties and responsibilities outlined, with or without accommodations
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
