Special Inspector
About the role
This Opportunity WSP’s Engineered Construction team is growing, and we have opportunities for Special Inspector in Durham, NC to perform field special inspections and testing for commercial, industrial, and transportation related construction projects. We are seeking experienced special inspectors with ICC, ACI and other certifications. We encourage you to apply to join our team of friendly, dedicated and collaborative professionals. Responsibilities
- Perform testing and inspections on general building sites and facilities
- Interpret project plans and specifications for compliance with projects requirements
- Perform soil density testing using both nuclear gauge and drive tube in accordance with ASTM and project specifications on site at commercial construction projects
- Perform Foundation inspections for various shallow foundations with dynamic cone penetrometer in accordance with testing standards and project specifications
- Observe proof rolls and undercut operations
- Perform reinforced concrete, post-tensioning, masonry and wood special inspections in accordance with Special Inspection requirements
- Sample and test concrete and grout in accordance with ASTM and project specifications
- Prepare and submit written field reports summarizing daily activities/observations and density calculations and results
- Test and work in accordance with Company safety policies
- Monitor work procedures for compliance with project specifications
- Interact with client representative (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites
- Perform analysis or calculations to check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of testing data
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 7+ years Construction Materials Testing experience either on commercial/industrial construction projects with emphasis on Soils and concrete
- ACI Field Level I certification (concrete sampling and field testing)
- ICC Soils or Equivalent
- ICC Reinforced Concrete or Equivalent
- ICC Masonry or Equivalent
- PTI Level 1 or Level 2 or Equivalent
- CWI or AWS certificate or ICC welding or ICC Bolting or equivalent
- ICC Fireproofing and ICC Wood is a Plus
- Other certifications or can obtain with 6 month of Hire is a Plus
- Valid Driver’s License and Good driving History
- Reliability – must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required

- Must pass physical, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
