Special Education Teaching Assistants - Multiple location Phoenix Valley

About the Role

The Special Student Services (Special Education and ESL) Teaching Assistant supports the Special Education Program at the academy in both general education and special education resource classrooms. This role assists students in all campus settings under the direction of certified Special Education and General Education teachers. Additional duties may vary based on the candidate's experience and academy needs.

Responsibilities

• Academic Support
  • Supports students in small groups or one-on-one settings
  • Assists students with assignments, homework, and projects
  • Adapts materials and provides modifications to help students learn
  • Helps students understand and reinforce classroom rules
• Behavior Support
  • Monitors student behavior to ensure safety and appropriate interactions
  • Implements behavior management strategies
  • Assists students in developing social skills and positive behaviors
  • Helps de-escalate student behaviors and seeks support from teachers as needed
  • Reinforces Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) concepts
• Additional Support
  • Assists students with transitions and activities
  • Supports students with personal hygiene needs (toileting, feeding, dressing)
  • Assists students with mobility and adaptive equipment
  • Provides clerical support for the ESS Team
• Additional Duties
  • Attends meetings and training sessions
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area
  • Fosters a supportive and positive learning environment

Requirements

• High school diploma or higher (associate's degree or higher preferred)
• Experience in special education (preferred)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Interest in reading great books
• Educational Aide certification I, II, or III (preferred)
• US work authorization required (OPT/CPT candidates accepted)

Physical Requirements

• Requires standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching
• May require moving or positioning equipment up to 15 pounds

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
