Special Education Teaching Assistant (Elementary)

Duties And Responsibilities

• Supports students in small groups or 1:1
• Aid students with assignments, homework, projects
• Adapt materials and provide modifications
• Understand and reinforce classroom rules
• Monitor student behavior
• Implement behavior management strategies
• Develop social skills and positive behaviors
• De-escalate student behaviors
• Support transitions and activities
• Assist with personal hygiene needs
• Support students with mobility and adaptive equipment
• Provide general clerical support
• Attend meetings and training sessions
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Create a supportive and positive learning environment

Required/Preferred Education

• High school degree or higher
• Associate's degree or higher preferred
• Two years/60 credit hours of higher education or passing ADE assessment

Required/Preferred Experience

• Experience in special education

Required/Preferred Skills

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• An interest in reading great books

Physical Functions

• Standing, sitting, repetitive hand and body movements
• Bending, squatting, reaching
• May move or position equipment up to 15 pounds
