About the Role
This position involves instructing students identified with autistic spectrum disorders and moderate to severe disorders, utilizing specialized supports and strategies.

Responsibilities
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
- Plans a program of study tailored to individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
- Prepares for classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Encourages students to maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Implements the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals.
- Diagnoses learning disabilities and seeks assistance from district specialists as needed.
- Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Communicates with parents, students, outside agencies, and other professionals.
- Develops IEPs compliant with district policy and KDE regulations.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
- Manages student caseload, ensuring compliance with IEP development, re-evaluations, and communication with teachers and service providers.
- Gathers ongoing instructional and behavioral data to adjust daily programs.
- Assesses student progress and reports to parents via IEP progress reports.
- Requisitions materials and equipment and performs clerical tasks as required.
- Implements instruction and behavior management strategies.
- Facilitates IEP meetings using established protocols.
- Functions as a member of a professional team and participates in transition activities.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
- Valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate for Teacher of Exceptional Children, MSD.
- Experience working with special needs students or in a special needs classroom preferred but not required.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and procedures of Special Education Due Process.
- Familiarity with Student Information System/IEP software (Infinite Campus).
- Understanding of evaluation instruments and eligibility criteria.
- Proficiency in progress monitoring, data collection, and analysis.
- Specialized methodology for teaching students with disabilities (academic and behavioral strategies).
Pay
Salary as approved by the Newport Board of Education.
Schedule
186-day contract.
