What You'll Do

As a Special Education Mentor / Transition Teacher, you'll provide individualized instruction that helps students develop the academic, vocational, and independent living skills needed for adult success. Your Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering individualized instruction in community-based settings.
  • Teaching life skills including communication, problem-solving, budgeting, workplace readiness, and independent living.
  • Supporting students as they work toward educational, employment, and personal goals.
  • Maintaining student progress notes and Individualized Education Program (IEP) portfolios.
  • Implementing positive behavior supports and evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • BUILDING POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH STUDENTS, FAMILIES, SCHOOLS, AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS.
  • Traveling locally (within approximately 30 miles) to provide services where students learn and thrive.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who is patient, encouraging, dependable, and passionate about helping students succeed. Requirements Include:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College coursework or a degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in education, special education, behavioral health, or human services.
  • Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and transition services is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record (minimum three years).
  • Reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Ability to obtain a Connecticut Public Passenger Endorsement (A) after hire (company reimbursement provided).
  • Ability to pass required pre-employment and random 10-panel drug screening.
  • Ability to travel locally throughout the service area.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are encouraged to apply.

Compensation

$19.00–$22.00 per hour, based on level of completed education.
