Special Education Teacher K-3, Leave Replacement (Brookside) **REPOSTING**

Leave-replacement position under the general supervision of the School Principal and Director of PPS.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures.
• Participate in PPTs and develop Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
• Assist students and teaching staff in implementing IEPs and behavior management plans.
• Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities.
• Collaborate with administrators and teaching staff to assess student abilities and needs, including those with special needs, and familiarize stakeholders with social work services.
• Serve as a resource to students and parents, providing counseling to support personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management; act as a liaison between home and school.
• Stay current with developments in the educational field through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, research, and relationships with higher education and business communities.
• Maintain accurate and complete record-keeping systems for student information, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
• Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Director of PPS, or central office administrators.

Requirements

• NYS Certification in Special Education/Students with Disabilities.
• Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

• Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, and methods for maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs.
• Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

Pay

Days 1–20: $133 per diem; Day 20 onward: 1/200 of step placement on the corresponding salary schedule. Salary range: $62,306 – $135,587 (2025/2026).
