About the role
The position is located within the Schools department and reports directly to the Principal. The terms of employment are maintained by the Board of Education, which includes maintaining an up-to-date, in-field and content area certificates issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, monitors, and reviews all special education required documents including IEP, FBAs, BIPs, RDR, and Re-Eligibility Reports for each student on the caseload.
- Addresses the unique needs of students in the caseload, including moderately intellectually disabled, orthopedically impaired, severely and profoundly disabled students, or deaf/hard of hearing students.
- Fulfills due process procedures for all referred and eligible students with disabilities.
- Teaches and performs classroom duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
- Continues professional development to stay updated on educational research, trends, and practices.
- Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
- Provides small group and specially designed instruction to adapt or modify the curriculum to meet the needs of each student.
- Maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in alignment with the local school PBIS protocol.
- Monitors students' progress in learning through various culturally-responsive techniques and maintains records for report cards, IEP progress reports, IEP meetings, and parent conferences.
- Provides lesson plans for daily and long-term substitute teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Communicates regularly with parents/caretakers regarding student progress on Georgia Standards, IEP goals, and special education processes.
- Participates in professional learning to increase skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities and serves on committees when needed.
- Evaluates, selects, and modifies culturally-responsive resources and activities to match learners' needs and meet the curriculum standards.
- Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent.
- Supports the district and local school vision, mission, and goals in words, actions, and behaviors.
- Complies with the Georgia Code of Ethics for Educators.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a Professional Standards Commission (PSC)-approved college or university.
- A valid in-field and content teaching certificate.
- Previous teaching experience preferred.
