Special Education Teacher/Elementary Learning Specialist
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Special Education
- PREFERRED: Two or more years successful teaching experience in Special Education
- Massachusetts Certification in Special Education (Moderate/Severe)
Performance Responsibilities
- Provide direct instruction and implement specially designed instruction to eligible students
- Plan and modify instruction as appropriate
- Consult with general education classroom teachers and specialists
- Monitor student progress in general education classrooms
- Develop IEPs, determine goals and objectives in conjunction with the Team
- Prepare progress reports
- Administer re-evaluation testing and support tri-annual progress monitoring
- Maintain contact with families and providers
- Attend building Learning Team as requested
- Perform other tasks as assigned by building Principal/Special Education
Job Goal
Responsible for planning instruction and/or curricula adaptations for included special needs students which allow students to meet high standards and success in typical settings.

Full Time, 183-Day, School Year Position
Salary and Benefits are consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Education Association. The Salary Schedule is on our website. Salary placement is based on Education and Experience.
New Teacher Induction Program
The Arlington Public Schools have a well-established new teacher induction program with mentoring throughout the school year.
First Official Work Day
The first official work day in the 2026-2027 school year will be August 31, 2026. However, new staff are required to attend several days of orientation and training during the last two weeks of August.
