About the role

Responsibilities

  • Recognize the basic dignities of students, parents and families, colleagues, and subordinates.
  • Create a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment that promotes students’ academic and social-emotional growth.
  • Collaborate with case conference committees to develop Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs).
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure students’ IEPs are correctly implemented.
  • Plan learning activities that are aligned with Indiana Academic Standards.
  • Implement learning activities using Corporation-adopted curricular materials and intervention materials.
  • Monitor students’ progress towards IEP goals and prepare and share quarterly progress reports.
  • Schedule special education meetings and share all notices and reports within specified timelines.
  • Initiate and maintain collaborative relationships with students’ parents and families.
  • Continuously strive to learn and develop new skills to promote student learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • The education and educator license or permit required by the Indiana Department of Education.
  • A positive, student-centered, and solution-focused attitude towards education and students.
  • The ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with others.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • The ability to manage a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment.
  • The ability to work with diverse groups of students.
  • The ability to enforce corporation and school rules and policies.
  • The ability to adhere to strict confidentiality policies.
  • The ability to use various computer and technology resources.
  • A past record clear of criminal activity and child abuse or neglect.
