Intermediate School Special Education Teacher

About the role

The Environmental Charter School is seeking an Intermediate School Special Education Teacher. Successful candidates must have a degree or experience in education, a strong work ethic, and a “whatever it takes” attitude. The school's philosophy emphasizes developing students into critical thinkers, thoughtful innovators, and well-rounded scholars, using environmental content as a lens for instruction.

Responsibilities

• Works with general education teachers to modify and adapt curriculum and PBL experiences for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques
• Collaborates with parents, administrators, school psychologists, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students’ educational, physical, and social/emotional development
• Provides instruction or instructional supports in all academic subjects using a variety of techniques to reinforce learning and to meet students’ varying needs and interests
• Provides direct and indirect instructional support to students in a variety of settings, including small group, one-on-one, and inclusive classroom settings
• Facilitate a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment in which all students can experience success
• Implement school-wide behavior management policies and the Olweus Bullying Prevention program within classrooms and throughout the school
• Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations in a timely and professional manner
• Collect and maintain data to track student progress, drive individualized instruction, and to design academic interventions
• Serve as the case manager for students with IEPs and communicate regularly with families to share academic and behavioral progress and develop a supportive home-school relationship

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
• PA Certification in special education
• At least 3 years of teaching experience preferred
• Familiarity with charter schools and grades 3-5 students desirable

Skills

• Knowledge of various instructional techniques to reinforce learning and meet students’ needs
• Ability to provide direct and indirect instructional support in multiple settings
• Experience implementing school-wide behavior management policies and the Olweus Bullying Prevention program
• Proficiency in maintaining accurate and complete student records and preparing reports
• Ability to collect and maintain data to track student progress and design academic interventions
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Pay

Minimum starting salary of $44,716 up to a maximum of $51,056, contingent upon prior years' teaching experience plus a $1000 special education supplement. Additional compensation may be awarded to highly qualified individuals.
