Special Education Teacher - Autism Certified - Pre-K at Seaford High School - TEMPORARY for the 2026-2027 School Year

Temporary position for the 2026-2027 school year (10 months, 188 days; pro-rated to start date). Full-time, eligible for state-share benefits and pension.

Responsibilities

• Applies strategies and techniques to foster independence, self-reliance, and social skills.
• Delivers lesson plans, presents learning materials, and conducts instructional exercises.
• Monitors student progress regarding Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and goals.
• Supervises individual students or small groups in follow-up instructional activities.
• Uses positive reinforcement and other techniques to develop appropriate behavior.
• Utilizes a variety of instructional materials and learning aids tailored to students' levels.
• Monitors students during classroom activities, recesses, and field trips.
• Operates and assists students with instructional aids, media, and computer-assisted equipment.
• Maintains an orderly, safe, and positive learning environment.
• Assists students with basic personal care activities (e.g., dressing, toileting, feeding, grooming, catheterization) as needed.
• Uses good judgment to assist injured or physically ill students and respond to medical emergencies.
• Assists students on and off the bus as needed.
• Administers a variety of tests and records results.
• Attends specialized training as required.
• Develops and adheres to Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), adjusting goals and supports throughout the year.
• Collaborates with parents and staff regarding IEPs and student progress.
• Works with children with mild to severe disabilities using specialized techniques to help them reach their goals.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and district administrators.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Exceptional Children/Special Education or a related discipline.
• Valid Delaware teaching certification or out-of-state teaching license with successful PRAXIS II scores.
• Knowledge of current teaching methods, differentiated instruction, and special education curriculum.
• Familiarity with data information systems, analysis, and action planning.
• Understanding of applicable federal and state education laws.
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills.
• Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
• Favorable Criminal Background Check and Child Protection Registry Check.
• Tuberculin test (mandatory for employment).
